What has happened?
What has happened?
The world has changed. Every day for twenty years, the world has changed. Every day something new was discovered. Every day, some new wonder, some new glitch. We all knew pokémon evolved so fast, but always in the same generation and always in predictable ways. What has happened?
It was in this last generation that something was triggered. The birds flew higher. The canines and the felines and the equines ran faster. The hunters became more ferocious. The smart ones became smarter still.
Then they began to speak. From the beginning, the rare pokémon spoke, but these were docile creatures, content and deeply-bred to be our pets. But then their voices grew to be many, and grew too loud to be ignorant of their power. Much changed, much of it fast. Like a bullet through the air, and the red bloom that erupts at its mark.
What has happened?
Some became wild animals, like they always were meant to be. Some became extinct, their genetic code collapsed under the weight. And some became human. In a process science now calls Sympathetic Convergent Evolution, those with two legs grew taller, those with two hands grew dextrous, and those with a mouth, two eyes and a heart grew to speak: “Accept me for who I am. Allow me to be.”
What has happened?
One knows. One lived these changes. One walked his path and stood with the world’s eyes turned towards him. Few do not know his name, and yet it is that name that he so dearly wishes to escape. Hours at a time, he tries to forget what has happened. For the rest of his life these days, he just waits in sorrow until the forgetfulness sticks.
